They have been used for centuries for their medicinal and therapeutic benefits. Scents and compounds in essential oils impact the brain in different ways, affecting moods and emotions. The different volatile aromatic compounds that make up an essential oil determines the oil’s benefits. Essential oils support the process of reprogramming the stress response on a chemical level. Various essential oils interrupt unhealthy stress responses and help you maintain homeostasis – the body’s state of being healthy, alert and effective. The chemical compounds in citrus oils, for example, can help cells return to their normal state.
